Types Of Outdoor Gear Storage Bags

Jul 13, 2026

Outdoor storage bags come in a wide variety of types and specifications to suit different needs. In terms of shape, options include rectangular, square, and round designs. Capacities range from just a few liters to several tens or even over a hundred liters. Functionally, there are types designed for simple waterproofing, as well as those offering dust-proof or tear-resistant capabilities. Additionally, some bags feature specialized functions-such as thermal insulation, cold storage, or UV protection-to meet the demands of various scenarios.
Waterproof compression bags (roll-top or air-valve styles): These feature either a roll-top closure or a one-way air valve, allowing air to be expelled manually to reduce volume. Typically made from 15D–210T nylon or PU-coated fabric, they offer a high waterproof rating (2000mm+) and are designed for storing bulky items like sleeping bags and down jackets, protecting them from moisture while saving backpack space.
Drawstring bags: These feature a simple design where the opening is cinched shut with a drawstring. They come in breathable mesh versions (suitable for wet shoes or dirty laundry) and thickened waterproof versions (for general dust and moisture protection). Common materials include Oxford cloth, mesh fabric, or PE; while lightweight and portable, they are not completely airtight.
