Research on Pet Food Packaging

The performance and quality of pet food packaging bags are crucial for ensuring the safety and quality of the food; consequently, research in this area primarily focuses on testing standards and methods for packaging material properties. In accordance with the national standard GB/T 28118–2011 (*Plastic and Aluminum Foil Composite Films and Bags for Food Packaging*), pet food packaging bags must undergo a series of rigorous performance tests. Key testing parameters include tensile strength, peel strength, heat-seal strength, oxygen transmission rate, water vapor transmission rate, pressure resistance, and drop resistance. These tests aim to comprehensively evaluate the bag's mechanical strength, interlaminar bond strength, seal integrity, and barrier properties against oxygen and water vapor, thereby ensuring effective food protection and an extended shelf life during production, transportation, and storage [7]. For instance, the oxygen transmission rate is a critical indicator of a package's barrier performance, and significant differences exist depending on the material structure; tests have shown that two samples of multilayer co-extruded films with different structures-PE/Tie/PA/Tie/PE and PA/Tie/PE/Tie/PA/Tie/PE-exhibited oxygen transmission rates of 39.9 cm³/(m²·24h·0.1MPa) and 15.8 cm³/(m²·24h·0.1MPa), respectively. Standardized testing provides a scientific basis for the design, material selection, and quality control of pet food packaging bags.
